Please join us for the return of the International Cider Club, on Thursday 1st September at 7pm start, in the Main Barn at Broome Farm. We have invited the incredible Elegast Cidery from Hilversum in the Netherlands.
Elegast makes cider from apples and pears and much rarer fruit from Dutch standard orchards. With this they give a new income to otherwise unprofitable orchards. In these orchards one has to climb a ladder to pick, and apples are often not suitable for the store: they are too big or too small or have spots. Elegast discovered however, that they have an excellent flavour profile for cider! And luckily, an ever increasing group of volunteers is willing to spend a day in the orchard to pick apples and drink cider.
Elegast makes a natural cider from pure juice. They harvest and press themselves, and through slow spontaneous fermentation in the winter months, achieve complexity in taste. They work with a variety of casks and barrels to age in, and add whole fruit for maceration, to create a diverse range of ciders.
The next step for Elegast is to work with new food forests that are presently being planted around the Netherlands and with modern orchards that transform into regenerative orchards. With a new product line, they will directly support the development of these new forms of nature-inclusive regenerative agriculture.
Alongside the drinks we will be serving a special seated buffet-style meal from Hancocks Meadow Farm.
Valley Drover Sheeps Milk Cheese tasting board, Hancocks Meadow Farm Scotch eggs and Sausage rolls with homemade pickles, chutneys and dehydrated figs served with Loughpool Bakery artisan breads and salad leaves from our own garden.
Our cheese is unpasteurised and not vegetarian, but vegetarian and pasteurised cheeses will be available.
The cost is £20 per adult. Accompanied children are allowed to attend and will have apple juice instead of alcoholic drinks. This covers all your tasters during the event and the food.
Cider Club will be spaced out on tables of 7 or 8 instead of in theatre style. Groups of less than 8 will be merged together.
Cider Club is open to all – you don’t have to be a festival ticket holder to come along, it is a stand-alone event. Your festival ticket does not get you entry.
Tickets may be available on the door but we can only guarantee you food if you pre-book.
If you have dietary requirements, please let us know in the ‘Notes’ box on the checkout page.
Once Cider Club has concluded, the festival bar will be open.
